Minutes of the October 8, 2002 Meeting
The Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Roll call was taken with council members James Hall, Tonya Smith, Norma Snedeker and David Crane and Attorney Henry J. Antonini present.
The minutes of the September meeting and financial report were approved with a motion by Norma and seconded by David. The motion carried by voice vote.
The Council advised that in response to Dan Hoke's letter from the last meeting, they had decided to keep the ordinance as it is, with the property owner either continuing to pay the base rate, or pay the connect fee when reconnecting to the sewer utility. Henry advised that there would be no reconnect fee when a home burned or a mobile home was replaced if there was prior sewer utility service.
The sewer punch list has not been completed to the Town's satisfaction and no funds will be released until it is completed.
Town Marshal Rick Baker advised that the Ameritech box has still not been moved.
Dean Ellis presented a petition to the Council to put a referendum on the next election ballot about withdrawing from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. The Council accepted the petition and took it under advisement Bill Weber spoke up against the petition and some discussion followed.
A request was received from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns for a voluntary special dues assessment to assist the organization in meeting its financial obligations for the remainder of the year. After discussion, a motion was made by David and seconded by Norma to approve $100 to be sent to IACT. The motion carried by voice vote.
Chuck Strobel requested some additional equipment for the lab. His request was approved at an earlier meeting.
A resident complained about a neighbor raising chickens and roosters. The information was given to Henry to send a letter to the neighbor.
Another complaint involved numerous cars parked behind a residence on Towne just north of Pike. Henry will also write a letter to them.
A request was received from Jack Barnard, 351 S. Parke, to remove a second mobile home from the sewer utility as it is only being used for storage. The request was tabled for further information.
The Police Log was turned in for September.
A motion was made by Jim and seconded by David to pay the Town claims in the amount of $18,833.14, the wastewater claims of $225,607.49 and the water department claims in the amount of $7,616.95. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m. with a motion by Norma and seconded by David. The motion carried by voice vote.
