GUIDELINES FOR INSTALLATION OF
BUILDING SEWER LATERALS
Addendum to Use Ordinance No. 2000-6
SECTION 1
GENERAL
The following guidelines shall apply for all residential, commercial, industrial and institutions users connecting to the Town of Fairview Park sewer system. These guidelines cover construction of sewer laterals from any serviced structure to the existing sanitary lateral or main.
A.Before building sewer excavation or construction begins, it shall be the responsibility of the
property owner to have all underground utilities located. A toll-free service is provided for utility
locations I-800-382-5544 There is a 48 hour advance notice prior to tile commencement of and
excavation.
B.A 72 hour notification for inspection of the building sewer installation will be required by tile
Town.
C. The property owner may do their own lateral work from inside the structure to the sewer main
line. (Property owner is defined as the person actually living in or owning tile structure.)
D.If the property owner is contracting out the installation of the lateral, it must be done by a
qualified contractor. The Town can help homeowners contact qualified contractors if necessary licensed
plumber or journeyman is required if plumbing work is necessary inside the structure.unless the work is
completed by the property owner. (Normally work is not required inside structures.)
E. Prior to final connection to the collection system, it shall be required to disconnect all non-waste producing
units from the sewer line (i.e. sump pumps, down spouts, etc,), Under no circumstances may groundwater or
rainwater be discharged into the sanitary sewer system.
F.Property owners will be responsible for the maintenance of building sewer from the building to the
sewer main.
G.Property owner must comply with the Town of Fairview Park sewer use ordinance and sewer rate
ordinance.
SECTION II
MATERIALS
PVC pipe and fittings shall have elastomeric joints, conforming to the requirements of ASTM F-477 and ASTM D-3212 standards, commonly called 'push-on' joints or glued joints. All joints shall be water tight PVC pipe shall be either schedule 40 or SDR-35 or greater quality.
