Minutes of the July 12, 2011 Meeting
The Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The Pledge to the Flag was recited. Roll call was taken with council members Jim Hall, Larry Natalie, Jim Snider, and Jim Moore and attorney Henry L. Antonini present. Council member David Crane was absent. A motion was made by Jim Snider and seconded by Jim Moore to accept the minutes of the June meeting and financial report. The motion carried by voice vote.
Jim Hall commented that he felt that the mosquito spraying was helping.
Sue advised that the cleaning and riprapping of the ditch on Chestnut will be completed on Wednesday.
Larry advised that he would be meeting with VCEDC to request help in providing the philanthropic money for the water grant.
Don Klinge advised of a county wide meeting of fire departments to apply for a grant to provide pagers for all firemen. He also thanked the Council for fixing the window in the old Town Hall.
Bill Weber asked if the Council would waive the $50 hall rental fee for Kidcare. Henry commented that that was not advisable. The Council advised they would need to pay the fee.
Willie Thomas complained of the condition of the Christopher Tierney property on Towne Street. It was decided to send him a letter giving him 10 days to clean the property. If it is not done, the Town workers will clean it and a bill will be sent to Mr. Tierney for the work. The County Health Dept. will pursue the matter of no running water.
Sue advised that no progress had been made on the David Wright property. Butch will get a report to Henry and a case will be filed in Circuit Court.
Resolution 2011-4, a resolution to establish an election board was read. A motion was made by Jim Moore and seconded by Jim Hall to pass said resolution. The motion passed by voice vote.
Larry was contacted by SVHS concerning the fencing around the old ball field. It was decided that the school can have the fence. Leonard Akers questioned whether the Council could do away with a public park without a public hearing.
Don Kling advised that the fire department will have a Chicken BBQ on August 27th.
A motion was made by Jim Moore and seconded by Jim Snider to pay the Town claims in the amount of $10,750.99, the water department claims in the amount of $9,506.14 and the wastewater claims in the amount of $9,219.27. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. with a motion by Jim Snider and seconded by Jim Hall. The motion carried by voice vote.
