Minutes of the July 8, 2014 Meeting
The Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The Pledge to the Flag was recited. Roll call was taken with council members Jim Hall, Larry Natalie, Tonya Smith, Phyllis Lambert and Jim Moore and Attorney Henry Antonini was present. A motion was made by Tonya and seconded by Phyllis to accept the minutes of the June meeting and financial report. The motion carried by voice vote.
Kristy Jerrell conducted a public hearing for the Storm Water Planning Study Grant. She advised that H,W& C was the only engineering firm to submit a packet. The grant will be for $30,000 with a local match of $4,000. The grant is noncompetitive. Kristy did request letters of support for the project.
Resolution 2014-4, A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION SUBMISSION AND LOCAL MATCH COMMITMENT was read. A motion was made by Tonya and seconded by Phyllis to pass said resolution. The motion carried by voice vote.
Ordinance 2014-6 FAIR HOUSING ORDINANCE was read. A motion was made by Phyllis and seconded by Tonya to pass said ordinance. The motion carried by voice vote.
Sue has sent letters on nuisance violation properties with little response. Henry advised to place ad in the paper with names and addresses if unable to reach property owners by certified mail.
Sue advised that the rotten tree on Washington needs removed due to public safety.
She received quotes from Affordable Tree Service for $750 and Scott Tree Service for $450. A motion was made by Tonya and seconded by Phyllis to have Scott Tree Service remove the tree. The motion carried by voice vote.
Mike Strader advised that 15 days are up and that nothing has been done on the Tierney property. Mr. Tierney advised that he was waiting for the price of metal to go up to sell his scrap.
Don Klinge requested additional funds for the Fire Department. He was advised that the Town would provide $2,000 additional funds this year.
Ordinance 2014-5 AMENDMENT TO GENERAL ORDINANCE NO2 1992, AN ORDINANCE DEFINING STOP INTERSECTIONS AND PENALTY FOR VIOLATION IN THE TOWN OF FAIRVIEW PARK, INDIANA, was read. A motion was made by Jim Hall and seconded by Jim Moore to pass said ordinance. The motion carried by voice vote.
Chris Tierney volunteered to help the Town in any area that he is qualified.
Don Klinge advised that hydrant flushing will be conducted the end of July.
Sue advised that the water/ww will be upgrading computers and software.
A motion was made by Tonya and seconded by Phyllis to pay the Town claims in the amount of $15,345.80, the water department claims in the amount of $13,702.37 and the wastewater claims in the amount of $13,809.57. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. with a motion by Tonya and seconded by Jim Hall. The motion carried by voice vote.
