Minutes of the July 10th, 2018 Meeting
The Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday July10th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The Pledge to the Flag was recited. Roll call was taken with council members Jim Hall, Larry Natalie, Tonya Smith, Larry Wilson, Jim Moore and Attorney Henry Antonini was all present. A motion was made by Tonya Smith and seconded by Larry Wilson to accept the minutes of the June meeting and financial report. The motion carried by voice vote.
Ron Shepard gave a quick update on the Storm Water Project, he said there will be no overtime on this job and he will supply daily reports on the project that he will drop off at the office. Ron stated that the project started on July 5th at Third & Plum, and they have been making decent progress on it.
Curtis gave his marshal update, he said they have been busy with criminal calls and theft has been a big issue, he mentioned his department is trying to get a list together for Duke Energy of the street lights that are out and they are still down one vehicle that has some electrical problems. Larry ask about golf carts in town and Curtis said they have spoken with a couple of residents who was out on golf carts and made them aware of the towns ordinance on them, he said they have spoken to some residents out riding four wheelers also. Larry also wanted to know who covers the town during the day and Curtis said mostly its Michael Ray.
Larry Natalie ask for a draft of a ordinance for yield signs in the area of east Third St. and Fulton St. by the winery, Tonya Smith made the motion to draft an ordinance for the signs, Jim Hall seconded the motion, motion carried by voice vote. Mike Kelley mentioned a few other signs that need to be replaced and he asked about the LED street lights, Neil said he believes the town would have to pay for the LED lights.
Larry Wilson spoke about the large tree that fell in his yard during the last big storm and was wanting to know what the board thought about the street department working on private property in situations such as that, the board discussed it and decided it would not be a good idea to allow this to happen, Larry said the towns equipment should not be doing work on private property.
Sue mentioned she had got one quote for $850.00 for the removal of the tree on Fourth St., Larry Wilson questioned if the tree really needs to be taken down and Tonya said it blocks the view of traffic on Fourth St.
A motion was made by Tonya Smith and seconded by Larry Wilson to pay the towns claims in the amount of $14,061.18 the water department claims in the amount of $16,916.29 with bonds $42,607.92 and the wastewater claims in the amount of $5,782.07 with bonds $58,761.57. The motion carried by voice vote. The amounts with bonds are due to the new computer program.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm with a motion by Tonya Smith and seconded by Jim Moore. The motion carried by voice vote.
