Minutes of the Steptember 12th, 2017 Meeting
The Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday September 12th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The Pledge to the Flag was recited. Roll call was taken with council members Jim Hall, Larry Natalie, Tonya Smith, Larry Wilson, Jim Moore and Attorney Henry Antonini was all present. A motion was made by Tonya Smith and seconded by Jim Hall to accept the minutes of the August meeting and financial report. The motion carried by voice vote
First up was the Town Marshal update, Curtis spoke about some of the upcoming things his department has planned, a training course for his reserves, he also spoke with Mr. Magee with the USDA about the grant for a new patrol car, the department has been approved for the grant now they need to find the match money the grant will be held open for five years. Curtis and his deputies are going to clean their office and get things in order, he spoke about getting an ordinance book together for his deputies so they will know what they can and cannot enforce and he is also looking into setting up an account with one of the 24 hour gas stations so his deputies will be able to get gas after midnight if needed.
Jim Moore ask about the ordinance for the sale of the property on Jackson St. Henry said he would draw one up for the next meeting, Sue ask about the property on First St. she needs to know what the board wants done with the garage that is on the property, tear it down or leave it alone, Henry said since it is a surplus property to leave it and it can be sold as is. Sue also ask the board what they want done about the gravel pit for the bids, Larry said it can be built up but not over three feet high, the board said they would look over the bids for the work when received .
Tonya spoke about the stop sign at Fourth and Washington, she thanked the town for installing a new sign she also ask if the town could get a LED flashing light at that intersection Sue said that light hasn’t worked in years.
Jane Tyler said Thank you to Jim Moore and the board for getting the property on Jackson St. tore down and cleaned up she also had a question about the property to the north of her, Curtis thought that John Newman was taking care of it and she had heard it was going to be cleaned up and sold Curtis said he would look into it.
There was a question about the camper on Jackson St. and Curtis said he would look into this also.
Under new business the public hearing for the 2018 budget was held, all the budgets for the town was read aloud.
Neil Costello spoke about the upcoming EDIT tax increase he had attended the county council meeting, ask some questions about the tax, he was told a portion of the tax will be used for public safety and no one is sure how much of this tax the towns will receive at this time.
Sue informed the board that the mosquito sprayer finally broke down and she is not sure if it can be repaired.
Neal spoke briefly about the ambulance service he said the county is going with a new company that offered the highest level of service with EMT’s.
A motion was made by Tonya Smith and seconded by Jim Moore to pay the towns claims in the amount of $17,717.03 the water department claims in the amount of $15,037.06 and the wastewater claims in the amount of $7,746.98. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35pm with a motion by Tonya Smith and seconded by Jim Hall. The motion carried by voice vote.
